Trails and Riding Areas
Here are some of the best places in the area to get out and ride your bicycle!
Ma & Pa Trail
The Ma & Pa Trail is Bel Air's fun local trail. The largest parking lot is at Annie's Playground, which is marked on the map below. The trail starts out paved but quickly becomes loose gravel and has slight inclines. The trail, from Annie's Playground to Williams Street is approximately three miles long. Plans to connect this section to the Forest Hill Ma & Pa Trail section are underway and we'll strive to keep you updated.
Gunpowder State Park
Gunpowder State Park is Harford County's best and most well maintained mountain bike park. There are several entrances and exits with trailheads and parking. If you need to know the intimate in's and out's stop by the shop and talk to staff, we're avid mountain bikers and we'll be happy to steer you in the correct direction. One or two rides at this park and you'll immediately notice all of the hard work that is done by GUMBO. You can find out more about GUMBO and all of the organizations we support here.
The NCR Trail, also known as the Torrey C Brown trail, is one of the most attractive trail options in the local area. The NCR trail offers a fully protected cycle path that leads from Hunt Valley to York, PA. The trail has a very gentle grade and the trail surface is dirt and tightly packed gravel for nearly the entire way. This trail is home to runners and cyclists and is extremely popular with both groups.
Patapsco Valley State Park
Patapsco Valley State Park is some of the premier mountain bike riding on the east coast. This park is expansive, spanning two counties and hundreds of acres. There is something for everyone in this huge natural wonder. There are extremely technical trails that can challenge the most seasoned rider as well as simple trails for newer cyclists. Within the park there is also the Rockburn Branch Skills Park that is designed specifically to help beginners get into the sport of mountain biking.
Baltimore and Annapolis Trail
The Baltimore And Annapolis Trail, or B&A Trail, is one of the best kept completely paved cycle paths in the area. This trail connects to the BWI Trail, both of which are fully paved. The B&A Trail will take you from just outside of BWI Airport in Glen Burnie, MD down to the Annapolis, MD city limits all on completely protected cycle path. If you wish to continue past the protected cycle path you can follow the "sharrows" on the road indicated that the road is to be shared with cyclists for an additional 4 miles. That extra distance will put you right in the heart of downtown scenic Annapolis. Don't forget to stop in Arnold along the way to say hello to the crew from the original Bike Doctor location.
This trail is a fantastic one for beginners looking for some moderate distance. This trail is completely paved and a fully protected cycle path that winds around BWI airport. The trail is a 10.5 mile loop that has various parking locations. The parking location we have indicated on our map is at Lindale Middle School, a public school with ample parking right on the trail. This parking is right on the trail and on weekends and during summer it is generally not crowded, for times when school is in session be sure to check out Friendship Park on Dorsey Road. The Friendship Park parking lot is open Dawn to Dusk everyday but this trail is very popular and the parking lot is often full.
Susquehanna State Park
Susquehanna State Park is another fantastic mountain bike option for everyone in Harford County. While the park is maintained, it is not quite as well maintained as Gunpowder State Park so on occasion trails can be difficult to traverse. Susquehanna offers a more technical ride with steeper ups and downs.
